Efficient and Comfortable Trimming
The HSA50 is the latest addition to the AK system of battery tools by Stihl. This cordless hedge trimmer is designed for maintaining hedges in your garden, with a lightweight build and long working times. Although it may not be as powerful as the HSA 60, the HSA50’s cutting length of 50 centimetres makes it an ideal tool for achieving a precise flat finish on your hedges.
The cutting blades of the HSA50 are laser-cut diamond ground and hardened for long-lasting sharpness and a clean cut. With a wide 30-millimetre spacing, the HSA50 can cut new growth up to 15 millimetres in diameter, roughly equivalent to a year’s growth depending on the hedge variety. Its painted blade design features a teardrop-shaped anvil that helps hold in the material as it’s cut, while a tip protector prevents damage to the blade if you’re cutting near the ground or along a wall.
You can easily re-sharpen the blades with a high-quality flat file or have a Stihl-approved dealer do it. Stihl Super Clean is the perfect solution to keep the blades in excellent condition. This product not only offers lubrication but can also dissolve the resin. Spray across the BLADES and run the tool for a few seconds after each use.
The motor and gearbox of the HSA50 give ample power for dealing with larger hedges around the garden. Thanks to the intelligent battery management system, you won’t experience a reduction in force if the battery charge is low. Instead, the emphasis will be consistent through the charge, behaving just like a petrol tool.
Weighing only 3.7 kilograms with the recommended AK-10 battery, the HSA50 is lightweight and well-balanced. The positioning of the battery and handles has been optimized to be as comfortable as possible, reducing fatigue when trimming larger hedges. The handles have excellent grip thanks to soft rubberized material and are large enough to be used easily with gloves on. The HSA50 also has an easy-to-pull switch on the front handle, making it easy to hold at any angle.
Like many other tools in the AK system, you can choose a battery that offers you the right working time. Stihl recommends using the HSA50 with the AK-10 battery. However, you can opt for the AK-20 or AK-30 battery if you need more than this. And like all Stihl AK system tools, the HSA50 is so quiet you don’t need to worry about wearing ear protection.
If you use your HSA50 with the Stihl Connected app, the SMART connector records the runtime of your machine and sends this information to your phone. This feature will let you know exactly when you should carry out maintenance tasks such as sharpening the blades or cleaning.
Features We Like
Hanging loop
Hang your tool securely on a wall to save space using the loop in the handle housing.
Neutral battery position
The battery can be inserted into the tool in 2 stages. In the first neutral position, the battery is secured in the tool but does not connect with the contacts, allowing for safe transport. In the second operating position, the battery is completely inserted, allowing for full operation of the tool.
Pruning system
The single-sided precision-ground and double-sided cutting blades produce a clean cut when trimming hedges. The 33° cutting angle delivers excellent cutting performance. The blade teeth geometry allows the cutting of twigs up to 8 mm thick.
Tip protection
Come with tip protection as standard, which prevents damage to both the blade and the gear, but also to things that lie near the hedgerow (e.g. natural stone wall). It also makes it easier to cut ground cover plants. (similar to illustration)
Scabbard
Protects the cutting blade for safe storage and transport.
Two-handed design
The tool is quickly started by simultaneously activating both the loop handle and the rear handle switches. The cutting speed is continuously variable using the rear control for a delicate and precise cut. The two-handed design is suitable for both left and right-handed users.
Functional design
The engine housing has smooth surfaces and round contours. This prevents the tool from getting caught on branches. The hedge trimmers are easy to clean.
