- Mulching Deck
Great All-Round Safety
The STIHL iMOW® robotic mower comes equipped with a number of various sensors. If someone attempts to pick up the RMI 422P while mowing, it will automatically stop to prevent any accidents. The safety design features include a pin protection system meaning it can only be operated by entering this pin. This will ensure no unauthorised or accidental operation occurs.
Bright & Clear LCD Control Panel Display
The RMI 422 P comes with an integrated control panel that is built into the mower housing. The STIHL iMOW® robotic mower features a superb LCD display which is both clear and bright. It gives the user an intuitive way of recording all settings needed, as well as a way of viewing all of the functions and any performance data. The large high-contrast, bright display is even clear & easy to read even in sunlight. The panel is flush-mounted in the housing of the automatic lawnmower.
The Smart Docking Station
The smart docking station is included as standard equipment for the STIHL iMOW® robotic mower. This act as the robotic mower’s home and also where it docks and charges its battery. The dock is also the start point for every mowing operation the RMI 422P undertakes Once a lawn mowing run starts, the automatic mower is guided via a signal transmitted by the perimeter wire installed at the edge of your lawn area via the docking station itself. If the weather turns and it starts to rain, or if the battery runs low during any mowing, the iMOW® robotic mower is programmed to independently returns to its docking station to recharge the battery. Thanks to this intelligent charging system, the RMI 422P will choose to either quick charge if another mowing operation is required or charge more gently in normal mode if no other mowing runs are needed. To offer versatility, the docking station is designed so it can be positioned within, or outside your lawn area.
Offset Dock Return
By default, the iMOW® robotic mower will travel back to the docking station along the installed perimeter wire. If required, and depending on the condition of the edge of the mowing area, the iMOW® can also travel to its docking station with an alternating offset to the perimeter wire if required.
iMOW® Robotic Mower Drive
The STIHL iMOW® robotic mowers feature a drive that enables them to mow hilly terrain with consistently high quality. The STIHL RMI 422 P is able to handle hill gradients of up to 40% which is quite impressive for a robotic mower.
Adaptive Slope Speed
The STIHL iMOW® RMI 422P uses its inbuilt tilt sensor to constantly analyse the position of the automatic lawnmower and then adjusts its speed as required. It incorporates its adaptive slope speed function to achieve this on uneven or hilly terrain.
Intelligent Mowing Plan
Using the STIHL iMOW® robotic mower interactive mowing plan, separate mowing time sessions during which the machine can be operational can be programmed for each day. Within the times set for the mower to operate, it will automatically determine the best times to mow for an optimum result. If mowing is interrupted due to rain, it will automatically catch up later within the specified mowing times set. This dynamic mowing plan can be adjusted at any time via the control panel.
What You Get As Standard
The standard equipment for the STIHL iMOW® robotic mower includes the machine itself, the smart docking station, four securing pegs for installing the docking station to the ground as well as an iMOW® ruler as an aid for laying the perimeter wire. An installation kit is also required to install the iMOW® robotic mower.
Movable Hood
The STIHL iMOW® robotic mower incorporates a movable hood with sensors into its design which protects it from the weather and any obstacles. If an obstacle is encountered during mowing, the iMOW® robotic mower’s integrated sensors will detect any contact with the object and automatically change direction.
The Mulching Mow Deck
A sturdy iMOW® mulching blade is part of the cutting system design and ensures a precise cutting pattern even with higher grass growth. The rotational direction of the blade changes automatically every time the blade stops. This ensures that the blades of the automatic lawnmower wear evenly. Your lawn cuttings will be finely cut to be returned back into the soil, giving back vital nutrients due to a robust mulching blade fitted, eliminating the need to dispose of any grass cuttings For ease of maintenance, the blade can be changed without the need for tools which is always a welcome feature in our eyes.
Traction Patterned Wheels
The treaded wheels of the automatic lawnmower are self-cleaning which is always a bonus and the smooth-running wheels with their traction pattern will ensure the STIHL iMOW® robotic mower moves very precisely for optimal results. This is emphasised more on hilly lawns with a gradient of up to 40% or lawns with dense grass growth.
A Bonus From Stihl
To make sure the edges & borders of your lawn are kept in good shape, STIHL are also offering a free FSA 45 Lithium-Ion grass trimmer with any STIHL iMOW® purchased from your local specialist iMOW® dealer. A great deal by any standard.
STIHL IMOW FAQ’s
How do I adjust the cutting height?
You can adjust the cutting height using the rotary knob on top of the iMOW® robotic mower. Select the desired cutting height with reference to the marking on the rotary knob.
- The minimum cutting height (setting 1) is 20 mm
- The maximum cutting height (setting 8) is 60 mm
What happens to the cuttings?
The iMOW® robotic mower is a mulching mower. During mulching, the grass clippings are further shredded in the mowing deck housing after cutting. They then fall back into the turf, where they remain and decompose. The finely shredded clippings return organic nutrients to the lawn, serving as a natural fertiliser. Fertiliser requirements are thereby reduced significantly.
Where are the ‘no go’ areas?
No-go areas are areas where the iMOW® robotic mower should not venture. No-go areas can include
- Ponds
- Swimming pools
- Flowerbeds
- Vegetable patches
These areas must be cordoned off by routing the perimeter wire accordingly
Can the RMI 422P Robotic Lawnmower mow lawn edges cleanly?
Soft edges (ground level patios, paths, etc.) are positioned inside the perimeter wire in such a way that the mower produces perfectly clean results. Around hard edges such as walls, raised patios, etc., the iMOW® robotic mower is installed in such a way that it travels as close to the edge as possible, but always safely.
How does the rain sensor work?
The rain sensor can be set so that mowing is interrupted or does not start when it is raining. The current value is displayed in a line diagram in the menu under “SMART” > “Weather” > “Rain sensor”. In order to set the 5-stage sensor, slide the control to the left or right. The rain sensor can also be set under “Settings” > “Rain sensor”. The sensitivity of the rain sensor and the time the robotic mower waits for the sensor surface to dry following rain varies, depending on the setting.
What happens when the battery on the IMOW is completely discharged?
The iMOW® robotic mower enters the docking station automatically at the end of the mowing operation or when the battery is low on energy. The number and duration of the mowing and charging operations within the active times are adapted fully automatically – Download PDF Manual Here (If Available)

Decided to take the plunge into auto lawn mowers and order from the website to collect from their Acle outlet, I’m amazed at how good this machine actually is……I had reservations initially as I have quite a large lawn but it has exceeded my expectations with the results, Well worth the price for the time I save now, let alone the results. Recommended.
