Additionally, it’s super simple to control with all the operations controlled by a single lever that adjusts the starter, choke, throttle and stop. Manoeuvring the chainsaw is effortless too, being a good weight at just under 6 kilos, will help reduce fatigue for long periods of use. Around the chainsaw is a loop-handle grip to ensure maximum control and reduce kickback.
Furthermore, Stihl has introduced an anti-vibration system to the MS251 which dampens the oscillations through the chainsaw and into the handle. A highly efficient petrol chainsaw, for all year round use.
Stihl has designed this MS251 semi-pro chainsaw with efficiency in mind. Benefitting from a highly powerful 2-stroke petrol engine with a 2-mix system, it results in a 20% lower fuel consumption and greatly reduced emissions compared to other 2-stroke models.
What’s more, the fuel and air ratio is controlled by an advanced compensator. This prevents the carburettor’s fuel-air mixture from becoming rich in petrol and the air filter from becoming clogged. Only the right amount of fuel is delivered depending on the volume of air being sucked in, resulting in constant engine power. This Stihl chainsaw also benefits from a pre-separation air filtration system, which means longer filter life.
Finally, Stihl has produced the MS251 chainsaw with its Ematic chain lubrication system. To make the chains last longer and reduce friction, the system lubricates the saw chains links and guide bar rails, resulting in less wear and up to 50% less oil c

HD2 filter is made from polyethene filter material with up to 70% finer pores than fleece and polyamide filters to trap even very fine dust. In addition, it is oil and water-repellent and thus very easy to clean. The PET-covered filter cartridge with quick-release lock enables the filter to be assembled and disassembled in next to no time, without using tools.
STIHL ElastoStart reduces the shock caused by the compression of the engine during starting. The compression shock is taken away from the user’s joints and muscles through a spring or rubber element in the starter handle.
What is the difference between Stihl 250 and 251?
There is no comparison between the Stihl 250 and 251. In terms of power, they are both right up there, but the 251 has more modern features. For what it’s intended for, it’s a good buy.

I have upgraded from the 250 to the Stihl ms251 chainsaw, and there is a considerable improvement in power and performance. The price is exceptional considering how much I originally paid for it’s predecessor. I would give this chainsaw 5 stars, it’s a little bit heavier than the older model.

One of the best small chainsaws I have ever used. I have used the MS 251 Cut down more than 100 trees of small to medium size. Over the last 2 years, it has been used to cut hardwoods, softwoods, palms, and giant bamboo.
Pros:
-Quality for the price, well constructed and very durable
-easily maintainable and easy to clean
-Vibrations are very low due to the light weight
-A very good performer in very hot weather
-With a break of 3 months, it is no problem to start it again.
Cons:
-The grid design on the bottom makes cleaning frustrating, requiring a brush
-It would be better if there was a better foot pad to start on the ground
-It is orange, as all STIHL products are.

It is just like every other Stihl product I have owned before. The MS251 is a great product. I like having one chainsaw, but I don’t like having to change chainsaw chains. I like the new lids on the fuel and oil. They are a lot easier to use.
